Barristers

At Whitestone Chambers, services provided by barristers are generally charged on a time basis by reference to an agreed hourly rate. In addition, barristers at Whitestone Chambers also charge fixed fees for hearings and refreshers. The fees are ordinarily negotiated and agreed with the Head of Legal Operations and will take account of a number of factors including (but not limited to), the required preparation, the complexity of the case, the seniority and expertise of the advocate and any reservation of diary time.

Public Access Barristers

1. At Whitestone Chambers, public access barristers accept instructions on an hourly or a fixed fee basis. Our fees are not inclusive of VAT and they may vary depending on the preparation required, the complexity of the case, seniority and expertise of the advocate and any reservation of diary time. 2. Timescales

   At Whitestone Chambers, we strive to avoid any delays to your case, and to complete our work in good time, however, this is dependent on a number of factors such as the complexity of the case, availability of barristers, quantity of papers requiring review, the approach taken by the other side and the need for additional information or documents.

3. Additional Costs

   Aside from barristers’ fees, additional disbursements may be incurred such as court fees, hiring of expert witnesses, expert evidence, travel and hotel costs. At Whitestone Chambers, we have mechanisms in place to help clients manage the risks of costs increasing significantly. We do this by keeping clients informed at every stage of the proceedings and ask for your permission before you commit to anything.

4. Third Party Payment Services

   Barristers and BSB entities are not entitled to hold client’s money apart from the money that is provided for their services. We use “SumUp” for any card payments for the legal services our barristers provide. SumUp is authorised as a Payment Institution by the Financial Conduct Authority. If you experience any issues with our third-party payment system, you can make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. We do not charge any additional amount to the clients for the use of third party payment services. All payments made by cheque or through a bank transfer are deposited into a centralised Chambers account.
